In the summer of 2018, Spotify told it was a ‘test’ to increase a 10% the price of its individual subscription plans in Norway. Well, the test has been running since then.
According to Daniel Ek: ‘if engagement and/or our listener value per hour is high, it gives us the ability to selectively increase our price’.
This statement by Ek is made to the Spotify shareholders that everyday see how Spotify subscribers and income increase but they are still losing money.
For now, they have increased the price of the Family plan in countries lie Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, Bolivia, Ecuador, Perú and Colombia where they have also increased the price of the Duo plan.
The question is: will users approve this price rise now that the world is facing a global economic depression? Will this be beneficious for artists and authors?
