YouTube Music adds new pre-save feature for albums

The idea of pre-save your favorite artists’ albums that are automatically added to your library on the day of release has been around for a long time.

It started in late 2016 on Spotify with an album by Laura Marling, and on that streaming service it has continued to be something that labels and distributors themselves do, using the Spotify API.

YouTube Music app is free for any device but offers paid services to delete advertising, such as Spotify.

Apple Music, for example, does things differently: it has the feature as part of its service, called «pre-add.» Now it seems YouTube Music is following that path.

Engadget platform reports that YouTube Music listeners can now view upcoming albums and save them to their libraries prior to release.

There is also more news from YouTube Music: It has officially launched the «video chapters» feature that has been testing for a few months.

It allows people to divide their YouTube videos into shorter chapters, with timestamps and titles, to help viewers sort content. One of the things this is very useful for is longer music videos, like live concerts, to help fans listen to specific songs.
